by Christina Diaz
Presented by: A Pound of Flesh & Into the Woods Gallery
This summer A Pound of Flesh and Into the Woods Gallery have partnered up to present “A Show of Hands”, an art exhibit featuring tattoo artistry. By utilizing silicone limbs that were provided by A Pound of Flesh, some of the industry’s top tattoo artists were able to display their artwork in a way that has never been seen before. With the end result being a three dimensional canvas that not only mimics human flesh but can be displayed on the wall much like a “conventional” piece of art.
On June 28th Into the Woods Gallery launched “A Show of Hands” to an overwhelming reception that showcased tattoo art in the positive light the medium deserves. For generations tattoos had developed a less than stellar reputation as an artform meant for the fringe of society. However, where tattoos were once commonly associated with rebels and ruffians; they can now be found on collectors from all walks of life. As the tattoo industry has become more entrenched in popular culture, the artform has matured beyond youthful rebellion to the fully realize artform that now graces gallery walls.
