Ballad Del Toro – A Three-Man Art Show
I arrived at the gallery at dusk. There was a slight spill of people from its interior onto the sidewalk. Familiar faces from both LA and SF filled this place and the faint scent of whiskey and brew lingered lightly in the air. Personal serapes and hats hung with the show title “BALLAD DEL TORO.”
This band of brothers met while attending Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design. “Del Toro,” as they call themselves, is comprised of Johnpaul Altamirano, Sean Cheetham and Jeff Nentrup. They paint together, play music as a band, and over the last year have been exploring the terrain of California’s Los Padres National Forest.
Ballad Del Toro – visually recounts the adventures and experiences these life long friends have had while connecting with nature and them selves. The work focuses on portraiture, natural landscapes and is reminiscent of California’s Old West.
Patrons and guests were entertained with a live musical performance from the Del Toro gents. I’ve seen them paint and perform over the years but this was the first time I’d seen them do anything like this: Rocking out in an intimate gallery setting, surrounded solely by their own work.
Should you be fortunate enough to be able to visit San Francisco between now and July 13th, definitely see this show.
